About

A publication for women, after forty.

An independent editorial team writing buying guides and reviews for women in the second half of life — without the hype that defines most of this category.

What The 40 Method is

The 40 Method is an independent editorial site that publishes buying guides, product reviews, and practical guides for women over 40. We focus on five areas: beauty, sleep, energy, fitness, and the changes of midlife. Our goal is to help readers make better purchasing decisions in the second half of life — without the hype that defines most of this category.

Who writes this

We’re an editorial team. We don’t have a registered dietitian, doctor, or licensed professional on staff, and we don’t claim credentials we don’t have. What we do have is research time, editorial standards, and a commitment to writing recommendations we’d give a friend.

Every piece on this site is published under a single byline: The 40 Method Editorial Team. That’s a deliberate choice. The methodology is the work — not the personality of the writer. If a recommendation is right, it’s right because the research holds up, not because of who signed it.

Why we exist

We started The 40 Method because most product recommendations for women over 40 fall into two camps: medical sites that won’t tell you what to buy, or affiliate sites that will tell you to buy anything. Neither is helpful when you actually need to choose between three magnesium glycinate brands or two pairs of walking shoes.

The clinical sites are accurate and impersonal. They tell a 49-year-old high-school teacher in Texas roughly the same thing they tell every woman who searches the same keywords. The information is correct. It is also, in practice, not very useful.

The affiliate sites are sales funnels with article wrappers. They recommend everything they earn commissions on, omit everything they don’t, and lose the trust of any reader who notices the pattern within thirty seconds.

We sit in between: rigorous enough to read labels and check recall databases, specific enough to write for women in this stretch of life, and honest enough to recommend against products we earn commission on when they don’t serve our reader.

What we cover

  • Beauty— skincare, beauty devices, and routines for skin that’s changing.
  • Sleep — magnesium, cooling sleepwear, sleep tools, and quiet routines.
  • Energy — protein, creatine, and supplements with a routine-first frame.
  • Fitness — walking shoes, adjustable dumbbells, low-impact equipment.
  • Hormone season — comfort products, books, and practical resources for the years of change.

What we don’t cover

  • Medical treatment advice or symptom assessment
  • Hormone replacement therapy recommendations
  • Anything that requires a clinical relationship or a prescription
  • Diagnosis of any kind

For any of those, please speak with a qualified healthcare provider.

How we make money

We earn affiliate commissions when readers buy products through links on our site. Those commissions don’t influence which products we recommend, but they do fund the work. Read the full affiliate disclosure here.

Our standards

The page that matters most on this site is our editorial standards. It explains how we choose products, when we test hands-on and when we don’t, how we handle medical-adjacent topics, and what we will and will not do. If you’ve read this far, that’s the next page worth your time.
